The short version
- You can use Aurabyte without an account. Your progress then stays only on your device.
- If you make an account, we store your email and your learning progress so you can use it on any device.
- There are no adverts. We never sell your information or use it for advertising.
- You can delete your account, and everything saved with it, at any time.
Who we are
Aurabyte (aurabyte.co.uk) is a free website for learning to code, run by DHANDA.pvt. If you have any question about your information, email hello@aurabyte.co.uk.
Using Aurabyte without an account
Your aura, solved challenges, settings and code are saved in your browser's storage on your own device. They aren't sent to us. Clearing your browser data removes them.
We don't use advertising or tracking cookies. To see how many people visit, we may use Cloudflare's visitor statistics, which don't use cookies and don't identify you.
If you make an account
We store:
- Your email address, so you can sign in. If you sign in with Google, Google shares your name, email and profile picture with our sign-in service. Aurabyte only uses your email.
- Your learning progress: aura, solved challenges, streaks, your chosen level, code you've written in challenges and the Code lab, saved projects, your Byte style, and the name you choose for certificates.
- Classes you join, and the nickname you give your teacher.
We use this only to run Aurabyte for you, for example so your progress follows you between devices. We don't use it to build profiles about you.
Classes
If you join a class with a class code, your teacher can see the nickname you chose, your aura, which challenges you've solved and when you were last active. Your teacher cannot see your email or your code. You can leave a class at any time, and your teacher can remove you.
Family view (parents)
A student can choose to share their progress with a parent by creating a parent link code in their account. Only people the student gives the code to can link. A linked parent sees the first name the student chose, their aura and rank, challenges solved, missions and certificates completed, how many challenges they solved this week, and when they were last active. Parents cannot see the student's code, email or class nickname, can't change anything, and can't send messages. The student can unlink a parent, or stop sharing completely, at any time.
Teacher accounts
If you ask for a teacher account, we store the name your students know you by, your school's name and your sign-in email, so we can check you're a teacher before switching on teacher tools. Teachers can set assignments for their classes: these list the challenges set and any due date. Students in the class can see their teacher's assignments.
Help messages
If you send a message to a person through Byte Help, we store your message, the email you give us for a reply (optional), which page you were on, your browser type, and the help topics Byte suggested. We use this only to answer you, and delete it when it's no longer needed.
Services we use
Aurabyte relies on a few trusted services to work. They only receive what they need to do their job.

Python and JavaScript code runs inside your own browser and isn't sent anywhere.
Children
Aurabyte is made for learners of all ages. If you're under 13, please ask a parent or guardian before making an account, or use Aurabyte through your school. You can always use Aurabyte without an account.
How long we keep it, and deleting it
We keep your account information until you delete your account. To delete it, sign in, choose My account, then Delete account. This removes your sign-in, your saved progress and projects, and your place in any classes. You can also email us and we'll delete it for you.
Your rights
You can ask to see the information we hold about you, to correct it, or to delete it. Email hello@aurabyte.co.uk. If you're unhappy with how we handle your information, you can complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Changes
If we change how Aurabyte uses information, we'll update this page and the date at the top.
